Blogwatch : Top 5 : Keybunch : India Design
I would have loved to write an introduction for the fabulous Keybunch gals but I felt their own intro was great so here it is :)
Traditionally in India, the lady of the house carried a key bunch on her waist. It was a sign of wealth and standing, as it contained keys to the important rooms of the house, especially the granary and the treasury. The Key Bunch here is as precious, and opens doors to beautiful homes, offices and spaces. Come, join us as we explore interesting rooms with our bunch of keys.
Sharon and Rekha are a unique blogger combination...together they run the blog Keybunch. I find the whole idea behind it so inspiring and also a window into the future as more bloggers and writers collaborate in a manner that was perhaps not possible without the convenience of the internet.
This is my Top 5 for 2010 from The Keybunch :)

DIY Tutorials
They have quite a few interesting tutorials, some by guest bloggers and I found the one above by May from Lohr,Germany on making a potted Xmas decoration, to be the most interesting. Also got my niece interested in the project so it was good fun :)
It was well written and simple---a novel way to bring in some christmas cheer to a tabletop :)
The Blog Carnival
In the spirit of collaborative enterprise, The Keybunch has hosted blog carnivals where individual bloggers write on a particular theme and then link it up for the carnival. I particularly loved the October Carnival --Cook's Nook, which showcased some very inspiring posts . It was a great way to bring all those kitchens, ideas and bloggers onto a collective forum inspired by a theme. Fabulous stuff !!
Designer Profiles
I got hooked on the one featuring Aditi Prakash over at Pure Ghee Designs . I subsequently became a fan of Aditi's work and a follower of her blog. It was thanks to the keybunch gals that I even got to know about her. That is perhaps the greatest pleasure of blogworld---you meet the most interesting people and discover some exceptional creativity. Aditi works with tribal craftsmen and has a lot of interesting handicrafts profiled on her blog.
Home Tours
Home tours are personal , experential and bring you into a home that you would perhaps not had the pleasure to visit otherwise. Keybunch has profiled many homes--some of bloggers one has interacted with and other of people from different parts of the world. My favourite is Meera Sethi's home in Toronto. Very modern eclectic and a collectors home inspired by every corner of the globe--truly 'international'.
The Peacock Accessory
I found this post on accessories inspired by the wonderful feathers of a peacock. Lots of interesting concepts and a real visual delight.
Of course, more than anything else, early in January 2010, I read a wonderful post on Indian Kitsch decor featuring the Dune hotel in Pondicherry and decided that day to visit the place. I finally went to Dune in March this year :)
Thank you Sharon and Rekha for bringing us such a wonderful blog :)
Rachna's Design File : A Creative Cocktail with a stylised umbrella

The Sicis Bathtub on the left is something she might want to acquire one day !!
Creative, determined and quite adorable is how most people who have ever met Rachna would describe her. She does almost everything with a passion, and has a joie de vivre that is infectious.
An architect by training and a writer at heart, she moved into the arena of media, brand communication and marketing quite serendipitously and is now well entrenched in the corporate world of BTL marketing. As her colleagues will attest, she is a hard worker, not afraid to get her hands dirty, a perfectionist and always gets the job done.
At which point, she would clap her hands is glee, shed the business cape and announce--let's party guys !! Her capacity for fun and frolic is undiminished -- even as she has grown and evolved on several other levels.
There are two very different aspects of her personality that coexist in perfect harmony ---the radical dreamer and the no-nonsense planner. It shows in her choice of design styles.

| AMY LAU |

| AMY LAU |
The fact that Amy Lau inspires her so does not surprise me----Amy Lau's designs are a creative composition that go well beyond the normal boundaries of interior design and thats what is so exciting about her. Her rooms are not just designed--they are curated !!
Rachna likes colour and drama, but at the same time needs clean lines and a simplicity of design. I found it really interesting that she noticed the lighting in every pic. Perhaps it is the architect in her----and lighting is such an important aspect of a well defined interior.

| GARY HUTTON |
Awesome Toilet Roll design detail for the partition wall...
The Gary Hutton bathroom appeals to the fun and whacky side of Rachna. As does the creative idea of using toilet rolls as a partition. It is also very very modern and appeals to her minimalist sensibilities perhaps. It is interesting that she preferred steel cladding in the bathroom and kitchen, while the other rooms have a softer luxurious and colourful aesthetic.

| NATHAN EGAN |
The Nathan Egan kitchen is where her serious side shows :).....clean lines, clutter control and no nonsense practicality. Also I find that Rachna has chosen it because of its conversational style. Open and accessible. Much like she is :)

| GARY HUTTON |
nice and warm colors... not too cluttered... its perfect... oh yes while the chairs are to die for, two different side tables is an interesting thought...
The bedroom selection was a surprise -----very elegant and chic but no hint of the bohemian :) But it does reveal her leaning towards detailing and soft muted modernism.
One of the things that you cannot see from these pics is that Rachna is also an avid collector of all kinds of artefacts, from various parts of the world. There would be a story to every single piece and she would preserve every little thing for the memories that it carries. She would also find a perfect spot for each artefact and display it beautifully.

| closet works |
A walk-in wardrobe even of this size would perhaps be insufficient for her compulsive shopper gene. Given that she is particular about every single accessory, there would be a perfect combination for every attire !!
This could very easily be her home---not one particular style but a confluence of ideas that exist together--harmoniously--much like her own personality. Vibrant and unpredictable----refreshingly 'different'.
What do you think ?---do send in your comments/feedback
Thank you,Rachna--- for putting together this design file.

Anjali's Design File : Discovering the melody of lifestyle
Anjali was born and raised in the Tea Gardens of Assam. It is a different life and culture, a far cry from the urban jungle of Delhi that she now resides in. The change has not been easy and the charm of the world of her childhood and youth remains a driving force in her endeavour to reclaim it again--in the present.A talented artist, she is a person who values her friendships and her family. Like many people who have grown up close to nature and away from the 'urgency' of city life she cherishes the simple things in life and is not easily seduced by the manifestations of material achievement.
She would perhaps sip her cup of chai, listen to some good music, enjoy her surroundings and then look at the frenetic pace of activity in the city and say " I just don't get it !! What are they all running for ?"
And perhaps because she walks slowly and absorbs everything around her, she notices details and appreciates the little nuances which are reflected throughout her design file. It is all about La Dolce Vita.

| Kara Mann |
So when she decided to compile a design file I knew she was also thinking about lots of light, greenery , about five dogs running around the place, chai and conversations :)
![]() |
| David Lawrence |
This David Lawrence designed room is great for conversations and catching up on the latest gossip :) The perfect place to chill out with friends. It's relatively informal,an interesting dash of colour but nothing over the top and quite a bit like Anjali herself I imagine :)

| Thom Filicia |
If you can use your Emmy award as a toilet roll holder then you are anything but conventional. I don't know if Anjali knows Thom Filicia from the famous Queer Eye series, but his work is unmistakeably 'fun' and his motto KISS (Keep it simple, stupid) would perhaps resonate with her own . Anjali has a weakness for all things equestrian, and an unconventional setting like this one reveals her own chirpy adventurous nature.
The Valerie Pasquiou kitchen is a very 'designer' kitchen. Functional but not obsessively so, refined and artistic in a space where such qualifications often find no room to express themselves.Lots of warmth and character in the space. It is also an entertainer's kitchen , which is perhaps true for Anjali as well, as I hear she bakes some wonderful cakes for friends :)

| Gary Hutton |
Gary Hutton seems to be a huge favourite with folks here :) I agree with Anjali on the comfort of the high bed---I have somehow never quite found the modern platform bed to be comfortable at all. Anjali also has a leaning for the warm and sensuous--like the leather headboard and fur blanket throw. Yes, the outdoor breakfast would be reminiscent of the tea gardens---such bliss !!!

| Jamie Herzlinger |
Old world femininity that embraces individuality and artistic expression. It is strident but not aggressive, mellow but not impressionable and sensuous without frivolity.
Thank you,Anjali--- for putting together this design file.

Davino's Design File : Namora mutual find---banking on a high NAV :)

This is his Harley Davidson--Namora. Bikes, especially vintage, are his greatest passion ---and the Harley is the love of his life .
A creative bent of mind, a traveller at heart with a passion for music, dance and adventure. In the professional world, however, he is a financial advisor.
An unlikely combination, and I was interested to see which designers would inspire him.

| NATHAN EGAN |
This room by Nathan Egan--Modernist style but not minimalist, elegant lines and a simplicity of purpose.
![]() |
| DAVID JIMENEZ |
The David Jimenez conversational cozy dining room is a move away from the conventional formal rectangular table preference.
There is a marked preference for greys, taupes and beiges for someone who is otherwise not afraid of colour :)
![]() |
| GARY HUTTON |
The all white Gary Hutton bathroom is for the spectacular and simple on one page.
![]() |
| NICOLE SASSAMAN |
The Nicole Sassaman kitchen is very stylistic, functional and simple.
![]() |
| KARA MANN |
There is one thing missing though :)---the quirky, unconventional aspect of his personality--- which does not reveal itself in the style file :)
The Kara Mann bedroom does give you a hint of the 'wild and creative side' but just a nuance :) Just enough to get you curious :
All in all, this is definitely an integrated aesthetic in terms of interior design. All the spaces flow into one another---effortlessly.
Davino---Now we know what your style file is---we would like to know what your friends think about your compilation-------Does this fit in with their perception of your design taste ? We would love to know :)
Thank you,Davino--- for putting together this design file.
