When XL works : The Design Diet

There are some aspects of interior design where an XL size works best. Unlike fashion, interior design feeds itself on a far more 'wholesome' diet :) Where the the visual aesthetic is the six pack of design.

1. Lots of Protein on that Coffee Table .

A large coffee table generally works well in most furniture arrangements. Where it doesn't either go for long and slim or use two cube trunks or a round ottoman instead.

2. Sofas with extra cheese

Sofas should be comfortable and well cushioned. Especially in a living room, lounge and TV room. Petite chairs are great as accents and slimline seating needs a really futuristic or a formal setting.

3. Windows wide please

Big windows make for a great interior setting. Brings in a lot of light, showcases a nice view in some cases, and almost always makes a room look more dramatic and grand.

4. Mirrors that broaden the scope

A large mirror in the dining room can create a very dramatic setting and also make a small space look much bigger. It can also work as a great backdrop for an interesting chandelier or bring in the detailing of the living room. The bigger the better of course.

5. Art that is larger than life

In contemporary design where there is a favour for monochromes and abstracts, overscaled pieces of art works best. They create a point of focus and gives an otherwise neutral and  understated space an infusion of colour and drama.

6.  Bold and dramatic prints

No longer the reign of subtle design and intricate detail. Now it is all about being larger than life and prints that jump out at you and claim the adulation they believe is rightfully theirs !!
