Delhi Photography : Arvind Hoon

I always think that any kind of art should be personal in some way, appropriate for the space and have the ability to connect you with the space that is beyond the four walls of your house as well. In reality or on an abstract level. Which is where photography comes in. I think it has the ability to achieve all three in a way that most of us find easy to relate to. And is also more affordable :)

I have always encouraged clients and friends to invest in photographs as art. Go beyond the personal pics. There is a lot of work in the market that is truly exceptional and easy to acquire. One can use photographs as well as oil on canvas, acrylics, ink and pencil sketches, mixed media etc and not be restricted by any one medium . What is important is that it is appropriate for a particular space.

I came across the work of Arvind Hoon, quite by chance. Although a lot of his photography is extraordinary, I have chosen the ones which I would find personally relevant in the context of  living space. His Metrozone is one such series that I love. The Delhi Metro is something every Delhiite is not only proud of, but has waited in anticipation for a long while ( and tolerated all the trafiic chaos for !!). I find his pictures in this series are quite exceptional.

I love the colours and play of light :)

These pics symbolise the journey that infrastructure in Delhi has been, while at the same time holding the promise of a new day for the inhabitants of this city and perhaps the promise of a better future. The light at the end of the Metro tunnel !!

Another thing that attracts me is the way in which the photographs have an incredible play of colour and light while carrying a siginificance that can be at once personal and poetic. Like the one on the left. I would love to use this print in a bedroom, siginifying the bricks of a relationship, the path of a relationship and the umbrellas a shield from the harsh introspection of mundanity.

If I had to use this photo , then I would place it at the end of a long corridor. I love the sense of depth. I would perhaps place a sleek black console below it to give that extra frame and have the door on the left open into a room that has a lot of natural sunlight.

Below, are two of my personal favourites :)  I just need to find that perfect space !!

Love the blog. I really liked two photos here. One of the Metro and the other of the man in the frame. How much would it cost and what would be a good size to buy ? Any tips on frames ?

Thanks

Srinivas

I have been observing the Metro transform the city since its inception, beyond providing a desperately needed efficient public transport system. It has changed the landscape of Delhi and the NCR.

This particular location near my home in Gurgaon, has risen from where there was nothing. Just rubble. The Millennium City, has a symbol that lives up to its name.

My proximity to the location has let me 'document' its progress. My attempt has been to show off the Metro in its true glory, which emerges mostly at night and the wee hours.

The man in the 'frame' is actually from a farmhouse near Delhi, and the outer frame that one can see it the actual wall of the building. The concrete texture is visible in a larger size. The lighting is very Rembrandt. Late afternoon.

Thanks Arvind :) for those inputs--it really helps see things in your perspective .

Personally, I find that having a photo of something that one can immediately relate to which can also work as fine wall art is a fabulous way to decorate one's home.Maybe you could do a shoot of the metro in Noida and I could have that in my home :)

The man in the frame is an exceptional photo--lot of depth, meaning and interesting play of light and colour

Thanks for visiting the blog Sri. Glad you liked the photos. The size as suggested by Arvind is given below. You may want to get in touch with him directly to acquire a photo. The details are on the website www.arvindhoon.com

As for the framing----I would suggest an appropriate border for both pics---colour of the border would also depend on where exactly you want to place it. I would suggest an elegant black frame for both pics. Also, I would suggest that the lighting in the space is appropriate to showcase both the photos best.

Man in frame --limited edition--Rs 12800/ best size 16 by 24 inches

Metrozone--limited edition--Rs 12800/ best size 16 by 24 inches
